DOM JUAN OR THE FEAST WITH THE STATUE

Having read the plethora of different literary, theatrical and whimsical versions of the myth of Dom Juan, Jean Lambert-wild and Lorenzo Malaguerra decided to focus on Molière’s Dom Juan and suggest their own adaptation.

In doing so, they further explore the classical repertoire. Jean Lambert-wild’s white Clown will play Dom Juan, after having previously transformed into Richard III for Richard III- Loyaulté me lie and Lucky in Waiting for Godot.

Lambert-wild and Malaguerra intend to show and make us hear the mythological dimension that transcends these texts. First of all, the myth of Dom Juan is centred on his relationship with death, illustrated by the character of the Commander. This relationship is both the cause and consequence of Dom Juan’s relationship to women. His rendezvous with death colours each one of his actions and turns him into an anarchist, a lover yet amoral, wholly carried by his own destiny.

In a farcical and tragic cabaret, Dom Juan, painted white, will be surrounded by actors-musicians from the Swiss Compagnie L’Ovale. Sganarelle will be played by the astonishing Steve Tientcheu and four of the seventeen young actors and actresses of the École Supérieure Professionelle de Théâtre – Académie de l’Union will take it in turns to play Donna Elvira, Charlotte, Don Carlos and the Beggar.

Doing so, this Franco-Swiss team composed of nine actors on stage and representing three generations of performers, will create a radical and surprising retelling of the Myth of Dom Juan.

Jean Lambert-wild and Stephane Blanquet co-author the stage design and give a dream-like dimension to the Myth, magnified by several decorative objects made of Limoges porcelain and incorporated into the set thanks to the renewed artistic collaboration with Christian Couty, the Usine les Porcelaines de la fabrique, Esprit Porcelaine and the support of NPO l’Union.
