Waiting for Godot

There are some of them also who, during their journey, are trapped in places without identity, for a whole slew of reasons: waiting for a border escort, waiting for a visa, waiting for removal, waiting for a sister or a son. These situations when the desired goal disappears with the need to stay put bring us back to the heart of Waiting for Godot. Vladimir and Estragon could be these migrants, stuck on a road under a tree, waiting for something or someone that is essential for them to go elsewhere, toward the life they dream of. Beings who, in order to make the unbearable bearable, invent games, dialogues, partners, moons, nights, and days.

There is nothing absurd about Waiting for Godot, unless it’s the absurdity of the world in which we try to create meaning. Anchoring the play in the tragedy of human adventures taking place at our doorsteps – and sometimes before our very eyes – without reducing its universal meaning, will let our contemporaries understand it in a new light. This is our aim.
